If you are new to the window cleaning business and are just starting out then there are some things you need to know about buckets. You might be saying to yourself what is there to know about buckets, a bucket is a bucket right? Actually there is a lot more to buckets then you may realize. Not only are there several models to choose from, but there are also several accessories that can make your job a whole lot easier. Buckets range in price from just a few bucks for a basic five gallon bucket to twenty five dollars and up, accessories not included. So lets talk about buckets!
The most basic bucket for window cleaning is the five gallon round bucket from any hardware store. I started out on one of these buckets and they certainly can do the job just fine. However as you start doing larger and larger properties that cheap five gallon bucket just don’t cut it. A more professional bucket designed specifically for window cleaning is going to make your job easier and keep you a lot drier.
There are two buckets that are really impressive and that will make your job easier. First lets talk about the Ettore six gallon super bucket. This bucket is yellow and is a rectangle. It can be outfitted with wheels, a lid, and a hangover drain tray that allows you to place your washing wand in the bucket without soaking it. This bucket allows you to dip the entire washing wand into the bucket at one time and not have to completely soak it if you choose not to do so. When using a five gallon round bucket you do not have that option and have to ring it out if you only want a little water on the washing wand. The other nice thing about this Ettore bucket is that you can purchase the LeifCart by Sörbo that allows you to roll this bucket around over rough terrain like grass and rocks. The LeifCart has a rocking holder so that your bucket stays upright and does not spill.
You might be asking yourself why would I want such a thing to carry my bucket? My answer to that is weight, once you have been carrying all your equipment around a building it takes a toll on your energy level, it is also fast to roll it and in the window washing business time matters. So every little thing that improves your time means more money for you.
The next bucket I want to talk about is the Sörbo Quadropod, this handy bucket and stand brings the bucket to your level so you don’t have to keep bending over, which is great news for your back. With this bucket you can either roll it along with you as you go if the surface allows or you can pick it up and the legs will fold in automatically and then when you place it back down they spread back out automatically.
If you decide to stick with the cheap five gallon bucket you might consider buying a bucket buddy or bucket sleeve that hangs on the outside of the bucket, this allows you to carry some tools and other window cleaning items as well as your window cleaning solution or soap. Its very important that it hangs only on the outside of the bucket, so shop around until you find the right one.
